On the 24th of September, 2025, the Barabar Grassroot Network (BGN) – a vibrant platform that unites 15 Civil Society Organizations and 10 socially engaged women artists and activists from across Kosovo, was officially launched.
The BGN is designed to foster exchange, capacity building, local action, and policy engagement, with inclusivity and diversity at its core. Together, members will shape future inclusive cultural policies, promote multiculturalism, and advance democratic participation through creative and community-driven initiatives.
At the launch event, the Toolkit for Promoting the Use of Art and Culture in Local Initiatives was also introduced, a practical resource developed in close consultation with experts and communities. This toolkit equips Grassroot actors with knowledge and methods to use art and culture as powerful tools for driving positive social change.
What the Network Offers Members
The Barabar Grassroot Network provides space and tools for members to:
✅ Gain new skills
✅ Bring ideas to life
✅ Test innovative approaches
✅ Engage communities
✅ Connect for shared impact
Building on Proven Success
This activity is part of “The BIG Project – Barabar Initiative (going) Grassroot”, implemented by Integra and CASA, with the support of the European Union in Kosovo.
The initiative builds on the successful experience of the Barabar Centre, established in Pristina in early 2023, as a hub for interethnic dialogue and cooperation. By integrating arts and culture into community work, the Barabar Centre has brought together diverse actors, from artists and civic organizations to institutions and media, to address sensitive social issues such as missing persons, wartime atrocity victims, and gender discrimination. Its demonstrated impact has paved the way for taking this model to the Grassroot level across Kosovo.
Looking Ahead
The launch of the Barabar Grassroot Network marks just the beginning. Together with its 25 founding members, the Network will continue working toward stronger, more inclusive communities by leveraging the transformative power of art, culture, and collaboration.
