From November 11 to 14, 2024, a delegation from the informal Kosovo Serb Civil Society Platform visited Berlin for a series of political dialogue meetings as part of the initiative “From the Integration Towards a New Social Contract for a Truly Multiethnic Kosovo.”
The eight-member delegation, consisting of prominent liberal voices from the Serb community across Kosovo, was headed by representatives Vera Pula and Boban Simić from Spaces and CASA, as well as external advisor Bodo Weber.
The members met with representatives from the German Chancellor’s Office (Kanzleramt), the Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt), and the Chair of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee, MP Michael Roth (SPD). They also spoke at the Bundestag EU Committee and participated in a closed roundtable, jointly organized with the Heinrich Böll Foundation (HBS).
During the meetings, delegation members briefed their interlocutors on the New Social Contract initiative and shared their vision for a multiethnic Kosovo based on the principles and ideas embedded in the Ahtisaari Plan, i.e., Kosovo’s constitution – strong collective rights for non-majority communities, strong rule of law, and robust local self-governance and democracy. The delegation furthermore engaged in discussions and shared perspectives on the concerning socio-political developments in Kosovo, with particular emphasis on inter-ethnic relations, as well as addressing the needs, interests and challenges encountered by the Serbian community.
This project is implemented by the NGO Centre for Affirmative Social Actions (CASA) in North Mitrovica and Space/s for Societal Change in Gračanica, with support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kosovo.
