Project Objectives:
The primary objective of this project is to enhance the citizens’ participation practices within the Serbian community in Kosovo, contributing to more inclusive decision-making processes at both local and central levels. This will be achieved through the enhancement of capacities and grassroots engagement of the Awakening Initiative.
The project will build upon the accomplishments and lessons learned in NGO CASA’s work on the establishment of this grassroots advocacy initiative in 2023. The inception phase attests to the existing need and motivation of citizens to engage in local advocacy initiatives but also pinpointed several deficiencies that need to be addressed for optimal results in the Awakening Initiative. These deficiencies pertain to the human capacity of its members and increased social recognition of this initiative. The specific objectives of these actions correspond with those needs and are as follows:
- Strengthen the capacities of local activists gathered under the Awakening Initiative to undertake and lead grassroots advocacy initiatives.
- Increase the public visibility and support for the Awakening Initiative.
- Design and execute at least four grass-roots advocacy initiatives of the Awakening Initiative in the Serbian community in Kosovo addressing the local priorities and needs.
Expected results:
- At least 20 young activists within the Awakening movement across Kosovo undergo comprehensive training programs crafted to amplify their capacity to act as catalysts for change.
- At least 40 members of the Awakening movement gained insights and incorporated best practices from national and regional success stories on citizens’ activism.
- The set of visibility/communication standards constituting the Awakening Initiative insignia was developed and put into use
- The Awakening Initiative has increased its visibility in the public, leading to increased engagement of the audience and beneficiaries
- The four advocacy initiatives crafted within the project gain public support and yield notable citizen mobilization.
