Breaking Barriers: Launch of the Emancipation Club for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Young Women

The Emancipation Club, launched by the NGO CASA through a series of workshops, began its activities yesterday at the Barabar Centre in Pristina. This Club is part of the Barabar Centre project and aims to help young women better understand their roles in society, equipping them with tools to advocate for their equality. The Club aspires to become a safe space for young women seeking societal change.

On the first day, the Club gathered young women from all ethnic communities in Kosovo, two experienced lecturers, and a special guest, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Madam Caroline Ziadeh.

Sociologist Dušica Jovičić from NGO CASA described it as a place where young women can learn, share, and gain tools for their journey toward empowerment.

In her address, Madam Ziadeh shared insights from her own experience, emphasizing the qualities necessary for women to attain and maintain positions of influence. She highlighted the importance of empowered young women, stating: “We are promoting hope. We must unpack our source of strength to demystify stereotypes and rebuild the social structure. And it starts with you and me. We have to work together.”

The first workshop, “Women as Agents of Change,” was conducted by Zana Hoxha, the founder of Artpolis and FemArt. This was followed by “Women’s Activism, Leadership, and Volunteering,” led by Milica Stojanović Kostić, the founder of the NGO Pravo na pravo, the blog Ženski info, and the Ženskast Podcast.

The workshops focused on empowerment through trust-building and the enhancement of young women’s societal well-being, intertwining stories of activism, diversity, and shared visions. Participants reflected on their positions and rights, discussing personal unique to women in Kosovo.

The workshops had a positive impact on the participants, providing knowledge and tools that bring Kosovo’s ethnic groups closer together.

The next workshop, “Conflict Resolution” and “Women in Media,” will take place at the same venue on March 15th. The Emancipation Club was created as part of the Barabar project, supported by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
