Colors of Silence: The Final Artistic Chapter of Creative Agents of Peace

On Tuesday, 9 December, and on the very day we marked 10 years of the Youth, Peace & Security (YPS) Agenda, the final joint artistic initiative of this phase of the Creative Agents of Peace and Social Inclusion project was held at the Barabar Center in Pristina.

This closing event, the multiethnic exhibition “Colors of Silence,” brought together five young artists whose works transformed quiet, unspoken experiences into spaces of color, emotion, and connection. Through this exhibition, silence became a medium through which inner landscapes, memories, and shared realities could be seen, felt, and reflected upon.

This final initiative was preceded by five diverse artistic gatherings, each offering young artists a platform to express, collaborate, and meet one another beyond the lines that often separate their communities.

Three initiatives were held in Bujanovac:

  • Echoes of Us – a poetic encounter that amplified the voices and emotions of youth;
  • Contours of Connection – an exhibition exploring the ways personal stories can become shared moments of empathy;
  • Unplugged Connections – an intimate music gathering where raw sound and presence created unfiltered dialogue.

One initiative took place in North Mitrovica:

  • The Paper Knew Our Language – a visual-poetic exhibition where paper became a bridge between lived experiences and artistic expression.

Another brought young musicians together in Gračanica:

  • Crossing Frequencies – a music night blending energy, collaboration, and creativity across communities.

The final initiative, held in Pristina, Colors of Silence, symbolically concluded this phase of the project’s journey.

Across exhibitions, music nights, poetry events, and collective creative processes, these initiatives demonstrated the power of art to create spaces where young people can meet honestly, safely, and imaginatively.

Throughout this phase, the project provided young artists from Kosovo and southern Serbia with opportunities to learn, experiment, travel, and grow—both artistically and personally.

What emerged was more than a series of events:
it became a journey of trust, a circle of support, and a community of young creators who chose to see one another beyond stereotypes and divisions.

Each initiative reflected a different facet of what peacebuilding through art can look like, while together they formed a powerful narrative of coexistence, curiosity, and the quiet courage of youth.

The project “Creative Agents of Peace and Social Inclusion” is implemented by NGO CASA and CDE Valley, with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office through ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, within the Zivik Funding Programme.
